Educate. Empower. Equip.

Providing knowledge, skills and vital equipment for basic and advanced cardiac support to the people of Africa.

OUR STORY

Bob Culver is an American Heart Association (AHA) Instructor experienced in offering CPR classes from Basic Life Support (BLS) to Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) for lay personnel as well as Advance Level Medical Professionals.

For the past 2 years, he has become involved with the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Depart of Clinical Medicine, helping teach Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advance Cardiac Life Support to Clinical Officers in Anesthesia. This led to being invited to share these courses with Kenya’s National Association of Clinical Officers in Anesthesia (NACOA) at their annual convention in Malindi, Kenya.

At this convention after teaching both the Basic and Advanced courses, Bob was asked, “What do you do if you don’t have a defibrillator?”A defibrillator is central to each course and standard equipment in hospitals and medical facilities throughout the US. This simple question created a sudden awareness that this essential item -- needed for successful resuscitation -- is not readily available worldwide.

Here was a class, educated and empowered to act to save a life, only to be without the equipment to handle the emergency. This need led directly to the establishment of CPRBOB Cares Foundation as an outreach of CPRBOB.com. CPRBOB Cares Foundation not only teaches CPR techniques but provides the newly empowered with proper equipment.

At CPRBOB Cares Foundation, our goal is to Educate, Empower, and Equip newly trained AHA graduates to successfully implement their new skills.

OUR MISSION

EDUCATE

CPRBOB Cares Foundation offers AHA classes in Basic and Advanced Resuscitation Skills for both professional and non-professional personnel. Classes cover recognition, response, and re-assessment for Sudden Cardiac Arrest and other medical emergencies for Adults, Children, and Infants.

EMPOWER

CPRBOB Cares Foundation also develops instructor training programs. Currently, we are training instructors in Africa for SmileTrain.org, NACOA, KMTC, and Kenya Society of Anesthesiologists (KSA). These new AHA Instructors will be able to offer AHA training to their medical facilities throughout Africa. Initial funding for this project came from a grant provided by World Federation of Societies of Anesthesiology (WFSA) and generous contributions from Case Western University AA program and CPRBOB.com.

EQUIP

Through educating and empowering new instructors, the goal of CPRBOB Cares Foundation is to ensure that facilities are equipped to respond to resuscitation emergencies. This means securing defibrillation equipment and other supplies. Funds raised are used to acquire and ship these items to medical facilities that new instructors designate.

Success In Kenya

In May 2018, CPRBOB Cares was privileged to work with a strong group of supporter to provide a train-the-trainers opportunity on-site in Kenya. Although extensive preparation was able to take place online, in-person and hands-on training is irreplaceable. To that end, our volunteers ended up training fourteen new trainers in Kenya.
